Privilege has its limits: White America’s heroin/opiod drug epidemic ignored by US government

Proving that White skin without “real” money has its limits, White suburbanites, rural and even city dwellers are dying like flies from drug overdoses in staggering numbers, as a result of a serious drug epidemic, yet there is little mention of it in the Big Business press and there has been little government intervention.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported that 33,091 Americans died from opioid overdose in 2015, outnumbering gun deaths. And 91 Americans (overwhelmingly White) die every day from an opioid overdose, but very little funding has been set aside for treatment, prevention or drug interdiction.

Last August one town rushed to save 26 people who had overdosed in one afternoon. Young Whites have been found overdosed on buses and bus stops, in cars, and even in front of their children. One older couple overdosed and collapsed recently on a Memphis sidewalk.

According to a report last December, by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics, one out of every 130 babies was born drug addicted in rural areas nationwide. Neonatal abstinence syndrome, a condition in which the newborn has to go through drug withdrawal after birth, has skyrocketed in rural areas over the past decade from 1.2 per every 1,000 hospital births to 7.5 per 1,000. In urban areas the rate has risen from 1.4 to 4.8 per 1,000.

The result of all these children being born to junkie mothers is that they ( White children) are being taken from parental custody and placed with relatives or in foster homes. In Vermont alone ,this rose 40 percent between 2013 and 2016, according to the state’s Department for Children and Families.

Just for a minute imagine Black parents and even grandparents overdosing in front of their children, or passing out and od’ing on buses,or in the middle of the street, at work or even while driving,

Imagine the response of the general public to scores of Black women delivering drug addicted babies.

We don’t have to imagine, we know what happened when some Black women strung out on crack, delivered addicted children in the late 1980’s early 1990’s. The news media competed with one another to see who could print or broadcast the most sordid, sick and/or sensational tale of crack addiction in the Black community. They reported ad-nauseum about how the advent of crack and crack addicts and crack babies was destroying the soul of America.

Congress people competed to see who could come up with the most draconian punishment for users and distributers. No doubt when the need arises, the power structure will have no problem demonizing White drug addicts as well.

However, White dysfunction, (in this case drug addiction) undermines the narrative that only Black and Colored folks (POC) are dysfunctional. So it can’t be front page news. It doesn’t fit the “folks in charge” narrative of Black=good, White=bad. White addicts are simply illicit drug users, while Black addicts are thugs.

Consequently, Whites are made to suffer because White drug fiends don’t fit the script, they don’t, fit the narrative, its “off message” so to speak. So the alarm hasn’t been sounded as it should.

Unfortunately, this crisis has its roots in the medical and pharmaceutical communities. Doctors over the last decade have over prescribed pain killers like oxycontin, which if patients become addicted to,turn to heroin or synthetic opioids like fentanyl, which is estimated to be about 50 times as powerful as heroin and has accounted for many of the overdose deaths.

Compounding the problem, greedy, profiteering, thuggish pharmaceutical companies dumped tons of opioids on the market without asking questions of those they were supplying. Unscrupulous doctors should also have to face consequences for the fact that they exacerbated this crisis. Some doctors have been caught selling opioids illegally.

Without question somebody ought to go to jail.

Predictably, the government’s efforts at interdiction are hindered by its benefactors finance capital Big Banks need to make profit. And drugs and drug dealing is as major a capitalist enterprise. Only the naïve believe differently.

Incidentally, opium production in Afghanistan has been on the rise since the US invasion, going from a few hundred tons in 2001 to about 4,800 tons today. The Taliban had worked to rid the country of its opium crop and had almost succeeded until the US arrived.

The CIA has a history of involvement in illicit drug dealing dating back to Vietnam. It’s cocaine dealing during the Iran/Contra scandal was exposed by journalist Garry Webb in the early 1990’s..

It has been reported by economists that drug trafficking is the third largest cash global commodity in the world, after oil and the arms trade. The opium trade brings in tens of billions yearly. According to Global Research, “The revenues derived from the global trade in heroin [money laundering] constitute a multi-billion dollar bonanza for financial [banking] institutions and organized crime.”

To paraphrase Kanye West, when it comes to the heroin/opiod epidemic it doesn’t appear that the government cares about White people either.

Pro-Lifers needed desperately

pain and suffering
There is so much inhumanity, meanness and unnecessary dying taking place in the world (famines, border closings, rejection of refugees, droning, executions) that it is reasonable to expect that anyone or group calling itself pro-life would be in the midst of it all advocating for the living.
Ironically, so-called pro-lifers who put on a big show at the US capitol every year and more recently protested Planned Parenthood clinics that perform abortions (that also provide desperately needed (pre-natal care), don’t really believe in everyone’s “right to life.” It’s a cynical movement, born out of a right wing womb and held on to dearly, by some well meaning folks as well and those for whom it is a religious crusade. In their zeal to protect the unborn, they have borrowed a term they are unfit to utter.
So-called pro-lifers cloak themselves in piety and self- righteousness, while in reality they are anti-abortion, anti-women and most importantly anti-the freedom of women to have sex when, how and with whom they choose.
To paraphrase Apostle John, ‘how can they say they love those they have not seen (the unborn) yet do not love those they see every day.’
They are pro- life in the same way that Trump claims to be pro worker as he cuts out as many benefits (quality public education, fair and equitable wages, environmental protection, decent and affordable health care, equal protection under the law, etc,) to workers as he can, while cynically promising them jobs.
When Trump announced that he wanted to increase the military budget by billions, it meant that the US is prepared to and preparing to kill those it claims are its enemies, most likely some Colored folks (POC for those who think Colored is not quite the correct term) One would expect that those declaring themselves Pro-Life would be up in arms. But unfortunately most who call themselves pro-life are too often pro war or pro violent US intervention.
Trump has announced the US would not allow any refugees from countries in which people are literally running for their lives. But the pro-life folks remain silent. On the contrary, many back the ban because they are anti-Muslim.
After the announcement that the state of Arkansas planned on killing ten inmates in a matter of days next month, it should have been reasonable to expect an outcry from the center of the pro-life movement, but none was forthcoming because most advocates of the pro-life position are pro death penalty. (despite its very unequal application)
While most of the country remains silent in the face of the deportation of human beings, who are simply trying to do what most human beings have done since they have been on the planet and that is move to a place which is more conducive to living, one might anticipate outrage by pro-lifers. But they too failed to pierce the silence, because they too are anti-immigrant.
Yemen is one several countries in Africa and the Middle East suffering from famine. Yet instead of delivering bread, the US bombed the country, launching 30 airstrikes this weekend, on behalf of its favored Muslims; Saudi Arabia. The US press has scarcely mentioned this impending disaster, to its shame, while reporting on the latest foolishness uttered from the mouth of the president. The pro-lifers are quiet because, well they are pro American and if the US are killing folks it must be okay and after all their concern is not with the “living.”
Incidentally, the US launched a strike against Yemen in which they targeted the eight year old family member of Anwar Awlaki, the US citizen the government executed by drone, whose 16 year old son was also killed by a drone strike months later. The pro-life community was silent because eight year old innocents are not their concern, they are already born.Besides she was a foreigner; Brown, Muslim and though only eight, a seed, a terrorist in the making.
The famine in Africa, including the Sudan, Nigeria and Somalia is being ignored by the pro-lifers and the good folks who talk endlessly, excessively about the glories and wonders of humanity, because well they are usually talking about North American humanity.(you know White folks) And the latest suffering of Africans doesn’t move them to action because they too are suffering from “famine fatigue.” They too are tired of helping “those people.” Ironically many of the pro- lifers favor population control in Africa and the Third World. Some Colored folk to their shame, think this as well.
Furthermore, while the Western press stresses that wars in the effected countries have  exacerbated the famine, they devote only a few lines to the fact that these famines have their roots in man-made climate change. In the cruelest bit of irony, Africa has been the most adversely affected by the excesses of the so-called developed world, which  has accelerated the warming of the planet. The Third World, especially Africa, has been hit the hardest as the long dry seasons have not only made it near impossible to sustain themselves through traditional farming, but has also disrupted the rhythm of many African cultures, forcing them to flee their lands.
As women in the US prepare to make the case for women, hopefully the case is made for Mother Earth as well as the tens of thousands of poor mothers, women and girls who may not make it to the end of the year and maybe not the end of the month.
What’s the point of debating when life begins, if we are not going to help those already here?

Yemeni raid: US Government kills 8year old as punishment for sins of the father

In his recent address to Congress, President Donald Trump used the tears of Carryn Owens, widow of Navy Seal Ryan Owens, who died in the US raid on Yemen last month, to hide the fact that the raid was not a raid at all, but a gangster like “hit” on another member of the family of Anwar Al-Awacki, 8 year old Nawar Al-Alwaki. The unwarranted attack fulfilled a Trump campaign promise and its US Imperialism’s way of sending a message to its enemies; nothing is sacred and nobody is off limits.

Nawar or “Nora” as she was known by her family was the daughter of San Antonio, Texas born Muslim cleric and US citizen Anwar al-Awlaki. Al-Awlaki was killed by the Obama administration in a so-called “signature” drone strike in 2011.

If it sounds far-fetched that the US government would carry out a hit on the family member of a designated “enemy of the State,” then consider that al-Awalki’s 16 year old son Abdulrahman al-Alwalki was killed “accidentally,” by the US government in a drone strike, only a month after it killed his father in the same fashion.

The US government responded to the international outcry accusing it of targeting Al-Awlaki’s family, by saying the teenager had been “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Adding insult to injury, White House press secretary at the time, Robert Gibbs, tried blaming the child for his murder saying, “I would suggest that you should have a far more responsible father.”

Is it a mere coincidence that a declared enemy of the State’s teen-aged son and now female child, are killed in US attacks? Incidentally the child’s mother was shot as well but survived!

Anyone paying attention knows that since the raid, there has been no reasonable or clear explanation for it, which was initially purportedly conducted to snatch files from an Al Qeada operative in Yemen.

However US officials told NBC News last week that, “Last month’s deadly commando raid in Yemen, which cost the lives of a U.S. Navy SEAL and a number of children, has so far yielded no significant intelligence.”

The raid cost 25 Yemeni civilians their lives, most were women, including nine children under the age of 13, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Young Nora was shot in the neck by US Navy Seals and died two hours later with her grandfather watching helplessly. So much for the glorification of the bravery of a bunch of mercenaries, who ran into someone else’s country and shot and killed innocent women and children.

When US Senator John McCain said that he thought the raid was aimed at killing suspected militants. NBC News reported that,” defense officials did not dispute McCain’s characterization, saying they were hoping to kill or capture certain militants, though they declined to name them.”

As untenable as the proposition may be to those still clinging on to the idea of the US government as the moral light of the world, there is no other reasonable explanation for this seemingly, out of the blue attack.

The message was crystal clear. Killing the 8 year old daughter of a radical anti- US cleric was a gangster move designed to say, ‘if you mess with us we will take out your entire family.’

Al- Awalki was an American citizen who began to denounce the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the US interventions in the Middle East. He left the US and began delivering fiery anti- US messages. Though Al-Awalki had not attacked the US, he was killed in a so-called “signature” drone strike.

The US claimed at the time without providing proof that he had mentored or had a hand in failed attacks against the US.

What’s most significant is that then president Obama became the first president to kill an American citizen, without due process. This “extrajudicial execution” was a flagrant violation of the US Constitution, which White House lawyers managed to “memo” over.

“We do not believe that al-Awlaki’s U.S. citizenship imposes constitutional limitations that would preclude the contemplated lethal action” [by the U.S. military or the CIA],” wrote the US Justice Department in a memo approving the murder in 2014.

And liberals and so-called left leaning progressives said nary a word about this crime.

Before the senior al-Awlaki’s killing it was accepted US jurisprudence that American citizens could not be killed by the government without what was thought to be the constitutionally guaranteed right to a trial, in which one can defend themselves against charges brought by the government.

Those who have begun to wake up as a result of the draconian measures taken by new President Trump, should also wake up the other immoral and indecent workings of the US government . This just in,”US warplanes conducted 30 strikes on Yemen. I didn’t know the US was at war with Yemen. Gangsterism at its finest.

Lakeville (MN) South High condones, coddles racism implies its ok as long as perpetrator non-Caucasian

Lakeville South High is the latest Twin Cities high school to have extremely racist graffiti found within its walls and it is the latest school to condone and coddle it by absolutely refusing to do anything about it. Yes they will slap the wrist of the offending student and make gratuitous statements about diversity. And they usually drop this bomb, ‘this isn’t a reflection of who we are,’ but in vehemently refusing to take a zero tolerance approach, that it is exactly, who they are.
If that sounds unfair, then why do these predominantly White school’s administration’s adamantly refuse to say to their student body, that this isn’t acceptable. The only logical conclusion is, either they agree with the racist, mean- spirited, intolerant behavior, or it is not that big of a deal. What’s a little racist graffiti, a little racist slur in the bigger scheme of things, it just kids being kids, they say.
Incredibly the Lakeville Area Public Schools sent a letter to parents assuring them that the fact that the perpetrator was a “non- Caucasian” who has “special education needs,” and this supposedly “will help the community and others put this into perspective.”
In other words, ‘the racist wasn’t White and was a little behind educationally,’ so it must be okay, or at least we don’t have to take responsibility for it.
Of course if it is indeed the case that the perpetrator had special education needs, then that indicates that someone educationally astute, helped this child figure out how to put something on the bathroom stalls that would be sure to offend the kids of color.
In other words, somebody likely put him up to it and its also likely that the special education kid didn’t do it at all, but may have taken the “rap.”
Proving that the district has no intention on dealing with the issue of racism and intolerance, the letter never mentions the word “racist” or “intolerance.” The letter stated, that someone had written “offensive words and images on bathroom stalls”
The letter goes on with the obligatory, “this is unfortunate and does not reflect the values,..” etc, etc.
But it does reflect the values of at least some of the folks in the Lakeville community. Allen Scarsella who was convicted last month of the racially motivated shooting of five people protesting the Minneapolis killing of Jamar Clark, is from Lakeville. The trial exposed Scarsella as a virulent racist. It exposed communications of his in which he even fantasized about killing Blacks, just because they were Black.
Earlier this year, one of the Lakeville schools reported that students taunted Latin students with chants of, “build the wall.” Also earlier this year,a significant number of White students showed up with Confederate flags on their cars and as part of their clothing. And they clearly understand that in the United States the North fought on the side of the Union and last we checked this is a Northern state, so it has nothing to do with their heritage. The kids wore the symbol because they understand it to be a sign of hatred and intolerance, a symbol of one races’ dominance over another.
Ironically the letter says this is a “teachable moment.”
Indeed it was, it taught the students that the administration doesn’t take hatefulness, racism and intolerance very seriously!
Furthermore, the schools’ response taught the kids of color and other sympathetic students that when something evil is directed at them, the school will concentrate on the victims and leave the victimizers in their ignorance. And that no serious effort will be done to ensure that they (kids of color), according to the boards’ letter, “feel welcome and safe in school.”
Though the school board was urged to have Lakeville South call a general assembly and explain why intolerance is unacceptable, while declaring that there will be “zero tolerance” for this kind of foolishness, the school and School Board steadfastly refused to do so. They also ignored a suggestion to meet with the kids of color and hear about their experiences and their concerns. .
Therefore, the only logical conclusion one can draw is that the school doesn’t want to know the truth about the micro aggressions and insensitive and boorish behavior its Black students and other kids of color are forced to put up with, while trying to secure an education.
Ultimately, we are forced to confront the truth and admit that the reason foolish young people continue to post racist and hateful graffiti, is because it is condoned by the greater White society and its institutions. How else can one explain the absolute refusal by school administrations to adopt a zero tolerance policy or even to address the issue of racism with the broader student population?
